The heart looks like fist wrapped in blood
my lisfestyle this last year has left an indelible mark on my sleeping pattern. Knowing this and yet NOT willing to take the responsible, adult action. I deal with it, try to live with it. Anyway, I stay up too late. Tonight I decided to watch a movie, or is it FILM. In this case I'll use the latter; "Closer" starring Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and the always amazing Clive Owen. This guy is my idea of a british Steve McQueen. A real bad-ass, and in this film it turns out that is the everyman - as hero. I won't ramble about the film, except to say that I LOVE to be blown away by a film that I had little or no previous notion of. In this case I should have heard about it, btu I am far too busy to track films. The point I did want to make is that it is really a rare occurance when the good guy wins. I mean we see his shllowness and a bit of the dark side of the good doctor. Nobody's perfect and even those with a strong moral compass can cause pain in those around them. But when the self-centered artsy type has lost his girl (to her husband, the doctor). He is standing in the doctor's office soaking wet and begging for her back. The artsy guy says "you don't know anything about the heart" and the hard working, good doctor growls "have you ever seen a heart, it looks like a FIST wrapped in BLOOD!" At this point the dialogue had drawn me closer to the tv so I could hear better and this truth just rang through me. I hope it sticks, the heart is a fist, a muscle, to be strengthened by excercise. The only exercise a heart gets is forgiveness.
